Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries At SNP LA
Spay Neuter clinic receives grant funding to provide free surgeries to select pet owners
LOS ANGELES (May 31, 2012)— The Spay Neuter Project of Los Angeles (SNP LA) will provide free spay and neuter surgeries for select pet owners this summer thanks to generous grant funding awarded by Best Friends Animal Society, The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation (JDHF) and PetSmart Charities. The initiative is aimed at lowering animal intake in LA area shelters thus reducing euthanasia in companion animals.
SNP LA will offer the free spay/neuter surgeries to residents in the following locations:
- San Fernando Valley – Van Nuys 91405, North Hollywood 91605, Panorama City 91402
- Baldwin Park – 91706
- El Monte – 91731, 91732, 91733
Some restrictions apply and appointments are required. For detailed information residents may visit www.snpla.org or call (310) 574-5555. Surgeries may be scheduled at one of SNP LA’s three locations in Pico Rivera, San Pedro, or Van Nuys. Supplies are limited and free surgeries will only be offered until grant funding is exhausted.
SNP LA’s expert veterinary staff specialize in spay and neuter surgery and have performed over 66,000 procedures since 2007. Pets over 8 weeks of age and 2 pounds in weight can safely undergo surgery. SNP LA also offers low cost vaccinations, microchipping and discount flea medication.
Surgical sterilization of pets is currently the only safe and reliable way to avoid the birth of unwanted litters of cats and dogs. With Los Angeles area shelters still killing 100,000 homeless pets each year, spay and neuter is an important tool to reduce shelter intake and euthanasia.
“Spay and neuter is good for you, your pet, and our community” said Dr. Katie Marrie, Medical Director, SNP LA. “Not only will you avoid the mess and frustration of heat cycles, but also the cost and hassle of an unwanted litter. Surgical sterilization will help your pet avoid certain health risks and eliminate some nuisance behaviors.”
“In this tough economy we are very excited to be able to offer spay neuter surgeries valued at hundreds of dollars for free to qualifying pet owners” said Noel Jackson, Director of Operations for SNP LA. “With these programs, we are making altering your pet easy and affordable.”
