Veterinary Training Project

Welcome to SNPLA’s Veterinary Training Project!  We are excited to offer our veterinary community the opportunity to come train with us in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) surgical and clinical techniques.  We recognize the need for our colleagues to have these types of professional experiences in order to build confidence and feel competent in the surgery suite.

Program Goals

  • To introduce veterinary professionals (surgeons, nurses, etc) to the principles and methods of HQHVSN.
  • To give veterinarians a range of spay/neuter surgical procedures and ample “table time” to practice the repetition needed to build a strong surgical skillset.
  • To provide veterinary nurses and final year nurse students the opportunity to practice hands-on HQHVSN clinical techniques one-on-one with our experienced staff.
  • To encourage our veterinary community to seek out professional opportunities in HQHVSN surgery, non-profit veterinary wellness, animal shelter medicine and animal welfare.

Veterinarian Trainee Requirements

  • California veterinary license (in good standing)
  • Personal professional veterinary liability insurance
  • Interest in HQHVSN surgery and non-profit veterinary wellness is strongly encouraged
  • Pay program fee

Program Schedule

Surgeons are scheduled on weekdays as program availability allows.  Please complete the application linked below and make sure to give specific days of the week you are available and will commit for training.  We are willing to work with trainees to provide a recurring weekly surgery day or consecutive weekdays.  The training program does not operate on Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays.  Please know that the VTP training spots are limited and the schedule is made months in advance; we ask that you plan ahead and commit to your training days.

CE Credit and Fees

The SNPLA Veterinary Training Project’s course “Surgical and Clinical Techniques in High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter Surgery” consists of a 4-day block of training sessions working one-on-one or two-on-one with our veterinary surgeon instructor and earns up to 20 hours of approved AAVSB RACE CE for a fee of $800.

Payments can be made HERE

Please know that there are no refunds once you start the course and we will work to make sure all trainees complete the initial 4 training sessions.  Any cancellation of a training session less than 7 days in advance will incur a $50 rescheduling fee; training sessions cancelled more than a week away will not incur a rescheduling fee.  Please, try not to cancel sessions since we book far in advance and spots are very limited.
